I’m a Lakewood, Ohio artist and graphic designer whose primary subject is our feline friends, and whose media include colored ink and pencil, paper, block prints, wire and beads, and pixels.
In terms of my process, I start with a series of hand-drawn sketches that explore the basic concept. Then, depending on the style that emerges, I’ll develop and complete the piece by hand or on a PC.
You’ll note that the interplay of line work, geometry, and texture figures prominently in my work, and I am specifically intrigued by how even minute adjustments to these can change the direction of a piece or give rise to a completely new one. The final pieces become framed and unframed mixed media and digital art, t-shirts, or jewelry.
Why cats? Well, I’ve been drawing them since I was a child and I LOVE them, so why not? And when my art makes someone smile because of how I depict their wacky and lovable antics, I feel like On The Side Art succeeds as a creative outlet.
Since 2023 and that first coffee shop wall, I’ve grown from what started as a side gig to nearly being a full-time artist who shows at Northeast Ohio festivals, markets, gift shops, and cafes.
